Referencing is quintessential to fashion practice, with iconic design pieces continuously shaping cultural and historical understanding through their archival presence and status. Heritage is approached as an evolving process and a site for knowledge, emphasizing ideas of the past as a mirror reflecting the now. Ensemble of Iconic Fragments reconsiders the fashion archive by reconstructing some of its most recognizable garments through discarded materials and progressive methods of making. Garments are constructed entirely through stitch-work on loose fibers, yarns and textile waste, where only the pattern pieces are fabricated. In this process, materials are re-valued and re-authored while purposefully pushing crafts and interrogating ideas of luxury, status and heritage.
