Dobromir Wojewoda Axil – Laparoscopic instrument project

  • First Time at DesignBlok
  • Diploma Selection

While minimally invasive surgery benefits patients, 90% of surgeons suffer from musculoskeletal disorders due to outdated, non-ergonomic tools. Axil solves this through user-centered design, integrating seamlessly with human anatomy to eliminate unnatural wrist rotation. The innovation lies in a completely redefined kinematics system with an optimized pistol grip. Jaw articulation is controlled by two fingers, while a central scroller is operated by the thumb, keeping the wrist in a safe, neutral posture. Developed through extensive prototyping, the scalable form fits the 5th percentile female to the 95th percentile male. Designed for clinical use, Axil utilizes medical-grade PEEK and stainless steel, bridging advanced ergonomics with rigorous engineering.
