Max Greiner To Melt a Stone

  • First Time at DesignBlok
  • Diploma Selection

To Melt a Stone transforms basalt, Iceland’s most abundant and overlooked resource, into functional objects. By integrating custom moulds and a cooling process into an existing lava-melting show, a visual spectacle was turned into a 100% regional micro-factory. The project is grounded in the idea that design can connect, mediate and give form to new ways of producing within regional boundaries. It is a speculation about resilience through making in a place that imports nearly all of its goods.
