The exhibition’s idea is that a designer’s role goes beyond product shaping. Students learn to think in complex ways – from the concept and choice of materials, through technological feasibility, to the way of presentation. Part of the process is asking questions about the designer’s responsibility towards the user, the environment and the wider cultural context. We present collections of lamps as examples of small series production. In the conditions of a small market and limited industrial infrastructure, the designer takes on the role of initiator of production, coordinator of cooperation, and author of his or her own brand. This model supports the emergence of smaller, flexible production platforms that enable a more sensitive response to local needs and sustainability.
