Qubus Design Studio has been a distinctive platform for contemporary Czech design and art since 2002. Its showroom and shop was the first post-revolution design store in the Czech Republic to systematically present Czech authored design, while also serving as the home of the Qubus brand. Alongside its own product portfolio, the studio represents the independent artistic practice of Jakub Berdych Karpelis and develops collaborations across design, fine art, craft and experimental production. It regularly invites other artists to collaborate and has long supported the creation and presentation of new author-led projects.
As part of this year’s Designblok programme, Qubus presents three projects. Inventarium previously launched in Milan returns in a Czech presentation in Hight Crafts curated section as a series of objects conceived as a spatial dialogue between Jakub Berdych Karpelis and Karel Štědrý. At Alcron Bar, the studio will unveil Awkwards, a year-long intervention by Jakub Berdych Karpelis. The accompanying programme will also feature the panel discussion The Qubus Phenomenon: 25 Years Between Design, Art and Reality, followed by a book signing of the monograph published to mark the 25th anniversary of both the studio and the brand.
