Runway to the Temple Na Výstavišti is a monumental installation by Barbora Šlapetová and Lukáš Rittstein, bringing together sculpture, film, animation, photography, and true stories in a single work. Lukáš Rittstein’s symmetrical sculptural ensemble Runway lines the path like a procession of sphinxes leading to the Turbotemple – a cinematic sanctuary that will land in front of the Industrial Palace at Výstaviště to mark what would have been Václav Havel’s 90th birthday. Its interior is “painted” with cinematic epic about encounters between distant worlds and journeys through time. The work draws on the artists’ thirty-year dialogue with the indigenous peoples of Papua New Guinea and on their wish to meet “our chiefs” – Václav Havel and an astronaut, a person who has literally touched the sky.
