Tim van der Plas The Ball of Shame

The Ball of Shame explores shame as both a psychological condition and a performative act. Inspired by Oscar Wilde’s Salome and its illustrations by Aubrey Beardsley, the collection considers the Biblical narrative as an internal dialogue rather than an interpersonal drama. From this perspective, the characters become a personal visualization of psychological processes, laying bare the emotional functioning of a shameful mind. Through experimental construction, exposed structures, and sharp, yet distorted tailoring, the garments reveal an eerie celebration of that which does not wish to be seen.
