Two designers living a double life – mothers by day, designers by night. Light becomes an imaginary divider between these two worlds. Both creators look for beauty in everyday life. Can a lamp cord that I have tripped over three times suddenly become beautiful? An object once detested, the embodiment of hell, transforms from a tangled mess into an inspiring frame for a scarf; a forgotten school snack complements the rich weave of Czech brocade; and an abandoned balcony becomes a woman’s oasis, where she is reborn as a designer once her children have been put to bed. Or perhaps after drinking that forgotten mug of cold coffee?
At the heart of the installation is an abundantly blossoming wisteria – a plant that, with each opening flower, creates a lively ecosystem of shapes and associations. Is it still a hairy pod, or a tongue sticking out? Filaments, or paper clips accidentally dropped on the floor? The wisteria spills over the railings, symbolising everyday worries flowing away and dissolving, giving way to an immersion in fantasy and the search for a lifeline of imagination – a fantasy vine.
