Slovak brand Felmera, which builds on more than sixty years of family textile tradition, will make its DesignBlok debut this year. At the Trade Fair Palace, it will present an installation in which the handwoven rug moves beyond the role of an interior accessory to become part of the architecture itself.
Felmera creates handwoven rugs from industrial wool felt made from 100% European wool. The contemporary brand draws on a family tradition dating back to 1963, combining knowledge passed down through generations with contemporary design, architecture and material experimentation. The rugs are handwoven in the brand’s studio in the Small Carpathians on its own custom-developed vertical looms. Alongside its own collections, Felmera also creates bespoke solutions for residential and commercial interiors as well as architectural projects.

For its DesignBlok debut, Felmera has collaborated with RK selection, the studio of Slovak designer Romi Klimeková, on a spatial installation inspired by this year’s theme, Light. The rug rises seamlessly from the floor into vertical planes, enveloping the furniture and shaping the exhibition space itself. Rather than simply looking at the rug, visitors will be able to literally step inside it. The minimalist concept highlights the structure of the wool, its softness and tactile qualities, as well as the subtle irregularities created through the handweaving process.
