Dance Inappropriately, Baby! is a textile series by BRO. that turns decorative embroidery into intimate images of movement, release, and escape. It draws on embroidered doilies made by the artist’s aunt in prison and sent to her family, becoming part of her childhood. The series reflects a need to create something delicate and beautiful in restrictive circumstances. Its dancing figures capture moments when the body breaks free from pressure, exhaustion, assigned roles, and self-control. Silk threads are disrupted by neon interventions, exposed reverse stitching, and the fraying edges of handwoven Indian silk. The resulting textile fragments balance intimacy, humor, vulnerability, and the desire for freedom, while retaining the form of small decorative textiles for domestic interiors.
