BRO.

BRO. is the artistic practice of visual artist and designer Ivana Kocmanová, who works primarily in hand embroidery. Her work draws on photographs of urban and personal life that function as a visual diary of memories, impressions, and lived experience. The slow, focused act of stitching stands in deliberate contrast to the speed and transience of digital imagery. She uses a medium traditionally associated with decoration, care, and domestic life to create intimate images of the body that draw on street fashion and subcultures. She also thematizes her experience of motherhood, as well as feminism and a desire for inner freedom. Ivana Kocmanová was nominated for the Czech Grand Design Award, and her work is held in the permanent collection of the Moravian Gallery in Brno.
