For Designblok 2026, Odeon publishing house has created an installation entitled In the Light of Odeon. Visitors enter a black box where darkness is illuminated by literature. Lightboxes present titles from the World Literature series, whose covers use photography – literally “light” – as their main visual motif. Each panel allows visitors to switch between the illuminated book cover and an excerpt from the text. The installation thus plays with the familiar saying “don’t judge a book by its cover” while bringing image and text together. At the same time, it reflects Odeon’s long tradition of high-quality book design. Here, light becomes not only a means of presentation, but a theme in itself, connecting literature, photography, typography and the reading experience.
