The collection comes from an exploration of stillness. Inspired by still life artists, it fixates in time what already lacks movement; guiding our perception to a singular perspective and, by doing so, deciding what deserves to be seen. The idea was to switch a classical design approach and think as a painter would. To explore how we can look at the object differently, appreciate its form, color and materiality instead of its function. A lot of textile research is based on that thought experiment; hand-painted silk screens, wools covered in plaster, or more nuanced choices such as keeping shoes in burned sienna to give a “frame” to the work. All to stay on the fine line between the stillness of an object with an undeniably moving wearer. Not cross it, but make a subtle translation.
