The REMNANT collection was created at Maalström.studio out of a fascination with the trace left in material by time, fire, and the process of creation. I work with green wood, which cracks and changes shape as it dries – these transformations are part of the finished object. This year, I focused more on fire as an active force revealing wood’s character, creating contrast between light and dark. In the spirit of DesignBlok’s theme – Light – I am drawn to this paradox: fire that gives light while also taking it away and leaving a dark trace. Material choice plays a key role – wood marked by cracks, knots, and deformities, whose imperfections I emphasize as the object’s identity. REMNANT is about traces that remain – in material, process, and us.
