Big Prague Vase

The monumental glass vase draws on the tradition of representative exhibition vases presented at the World’s Fairs and anniversary exhibitions of the 19th century. These objects served not merely as decorative pieces, but above all as demonstrations of the artistic and technological achievements of their time—much like authorial installations at Designblok do today.

The vase connects a historical form with a contemporary perspective on the city. Hand-painted using kiln-fired glass paints, it combines realistic fragments from my personal visual archive of Prague—architecture, graffiti, urban ornament, nature, the colours of public space, and small everyday situations—with abstract painterly layers that create a personal mythology of contemporary Prague.
