Dominika Petrtýlová Big Prague Vase

  • High Craft

The monumental glass vase draws inspiration from the tradition of representative exhibition vases presented at international and jubilee exhibitions of the nineteenth century. These objects were not merely decorative but served as demonstrations of the artistic and technological achievements of their time, much like the contemporary site-specific installations presented at DesignBlok today. The vase combines a historical form with a contemporary vision of the city. Hand painted with fired glass enamels, it brings together realistic fragments from my personal visual archive of Prague – including architecture, graffiti, urban ornament, nature, the colors of public space and everyday moments – with abstract painterly layers that together create a personal mythology of contemporary Prague.
