The Ritual of Return is a glass collection and installation, building on the artist’s project ~1 hour collection, with which she returns to the Trade Fair Palace of the NG after three years.
The glass plates are imprints of modeled landscapes: the desert of the Naqab (today’s Negev) and the city of Bir al-Sabi’ (today’s Beersheba), origin of her father’s Bedouin roots. These are places the family cannot physically visit, and glass becomes a carrier of memory, a way to reach a landscape otherwise out of reach.
The plates are also functional, used for dipping bread into za’atar and oil.The aim is to humanize the Palestinian story, not only through pain, but through hospitality, a shared table, and the simple act of eating together. Humanity is harder to ignore than politics.
