The Plastenco brand, which produces objects from 3D-printed recycled and recyclable plastics, will once again be present at this year’s DesignBlok. You can already view their latest project in the baroque Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Lišany, which now features a newly installed lighting object by designer Jan Kulhánek. The central chandelier is composed of 25 unique tubes produced by robotic 3D printing from waste PLA granulate. It is accompanied by refurbished wall sconces, whose original brass components were given a new lease on life.
“I didn’t want to bring an object into the church that would merely be a showcase for robotic 3D printing. It was important to me to find a balance between contemporary technology, the original elements, and the atmosphere of the space,” says the designer, Jan Kulhánek.
Czech manufacturers and craftsmen collaborated on the project. The result is a sensitive fusion of contemporary technology, local craftsmanship, and historical space.
