Jindřich Halabala’s iconic armchairs in a new look! Modernista approached designer Mikuláš Brukner of the studio KNIT-ART to create a collection of original textiles that connects Czechoslovak interwar design with contemporary knitting technologies. The central piece is the legendary H-70 reclining armchair with new knitted upholstery, inspired by the graphic works of Jožka Baruch, an artist from Moravian Wallachia. Brukner translated his distinctive lines, ornaments and nature motifs into a contemporary textile language. The collection is complemented by limited editions of knitted pictures, blankets and cushions.
The collection is the result of more than a year of development and experimentation. It premiered during this year’s DesignBlok at the Modernista showroom in Vinohrady, where it remains on view and for sale until January 2027, as well as at the Modernista branches in the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague and the House of the Black Madonna.
