Among the products visitors could see this year at the premiere of the physical DesignBlok Selects exhibition, part of this year’s DesignBlok, was the new HOFA dining chair by the studio Vrtiška & Žák.
With this chair, the BeOak by Javorina brand, which has been making solid oak furniture since 1947, builds on its own tradition. It is based on a mountain chair the company produced for cottages and hotels in the 1950s–1970s, which was itself modeled on the traditional peasant chair. Together with Vrtiška & Žák, it has translated the chair’s simple construction, with its solid wood seat, round legs and slab backrest, into a contemporary form. The characteristic cut-out in the backrest has been kept, and in production it can be customized, for example with a favorite symbol. And it won’t stop at the chair! A design-related bench will follow as early as the beginning of 2027.
