The new Natural/Brutal collection of vases by Jiří Pelcl plays with the contrast between clear glass and raw-looking metal. Pelcl designed and made the vases as a combination of both materials. They were produced this August at the Valner glassworks in Přibyslav, for which he created his own wooden and metal moulds. He doesn’t use classic moulds for blowing rotational shapes. Instead, he makes the mould for each vase individually, in a sculptural way.
The vases are the centrepiece of the exhibition Jiří Pelcl: Vases (I Didn’t Want Any More Exhibitions) at mimokolektiv in Olomouc. Pelcl first hesitated and wanted to turn the show down, but the curators won him over, partly thanks to his memories of Olomouc from his youth. Besides the new vases, the exhibition offers a selection of older glass and porcelain products, and you can take the displayed pieces home with you right away. It is on view until 22 December, and a guided tour with Jiří Pelcl takes place on Tuesday 10 November at 5 pm.
