DesignBlok Selects: Exhibiton

The spatial collage Bazaar Bizaar balancing on the edge of sculpture

Playful, collage-like, and defying expectations of a classic chandelier. The Czech brand ARTGLASS has introduced a new lighting object, Bazaar Bizaar, by artist Jakub Berdych Karpelis.

For this project, the brand’s newly appointed art director utilized fragments and traditional components from other chandeliers, breathing completely new life into them. Glass spheres thus levitate alongside golden elements, and what were originally technical parts are transformed into ornamentation. The result is a visually rich spatial collage blurring the lines between design, sculpture, and scenography. It is currently on view till the 20th of September at the Prague exhibition space DOX by Qubus, as part of an installation curated by Marcela Straková.

Jakub is also a regular participant at the DesignBlok festival and will not be missing this year. In the High Craft section at the Prague Castle Riding School, you will be able to see both his own work and a new installation for ARTGLASS, which he created in his role as the brand’s art director.
