Hannah Mackaness
Rubbish Glazes asks us to reflect on what really happens when we throw things away. Switzerland incinerates all municipal waste, leaving behind approximately 1 million tons of toxic ash, which is buried underground. The ash is used here to make ceramic glazes, creating a series of narrative objects – ceramic visualizations of ash – which intimately connect the waste, the maker and the landscape.
