No Project Without Drama: HORNBACH and Studio IHOR Invite You to Create at This Year’s Designblok

26. 9. 2025

Under the title No Project Without Drama, the DIY store chain HORNBACH will present an installation at Designblok created in collaboration with the young design studio IHOR. Together, they have developed an experience that connects the world of professional design with the playfulness and freedom of DIY – where even small mishaps are seen as a natural and beautiful part of the courageous journey towards the final result. From Wednesday, 8 October to Sunday, 12 October 2025, the installation will be on view in the Superstudio at the newly renovated Křižík Pavilions.

Visitors will step into an interactive setting that reveals both the challenges and above all the positive experience of the bathroom renovation process. “We see DIY stores as toy shops for adults – they spark creativity, emotions, and ambition. Our goal was to keep as many DIY elements in the installation as possible, which is why we did not hide the materials or the production processes. On the contrary, everything is exposed so that visitors can have a moment of realization: ‘Aha, so this is how it was made – we could do that too!’” explains designer Ihor Sabadosh, who collaborates with Sára Matysová, adding: “The installation vividly illustrates the energy exchange between a person and their project – what you put into it will be returned to you.”

A symbolic element of the stand, built from readily available HORNBACH materials, is the iconic armchair by Charles and Ray Eames – but here it is reinterpreted in a makeshift DIY version, serving as proof that success is attainable and can take many forms. Mediators in the role of enthusiastic creators help connect visitors with the installation. They draw the audience into the story, inviting them to sit in the chair and, by pushing pedals with their own strength, set the entire scenography in motion.

By activating this mechanical device, participants power a life-sized pop-up book narrating the steps and unexpected complications of a home renovation project. Spectators become part of the unfolding story within a spatial leporello, which shows that no project is without obstacles – yet these very obstacles give the outcome its strength and character. The entire journey through the installation concludes happily with the finished work, something one can be truly proud of.

As part of Designblok, guided tours with the authors of the installation, Ihor Sabadosh and Sára Matysová of Studio IHOR, will also take place. Visitors are welcome to join on Wednesday, 8 October from 14:00 to 15:00, and on Saturday, 11 October from 16:00 to 17:00.

The installation No Project Without Drama will be presented at Designblok 2025 in the Superstudio at the Křižík Pavilions at Výstaviště in Prague 7 from Wednesday, 8 October to Sunday, 12 October 2025.
