As usual, Designblok will also be focusing on fashion. On Saturday, October 24, visitors to the special Škoda Design Runway will get a chance to see twelve fashion collections designed by shooting stars from the Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Estonia, Bulgaria, and the Czech Republic. Fashion designers will also showcase their work in the Openstudio where leading Czech fashion designers, such as Monika Drápalová and Hana Zárubová, will present their collections.
The Ukrainian studio Dzhus is one of the biggest draws to Designblok this year. They present Totalitarium, a conceptual fashion collection inspired by working class life and the industrialisation and technocracy worshipped by regimes in the first half of the 20th century. Combining geometric shapes with architectural elements and structures, these avant-garde models confront contemporary fashion stereotypes with a focus on wearability, austerity, and functionality.
The Designblok fashion section will include fashion shows by participants in the Diploma Selection competition, including fashion designer Elvira Tomalevska from Bulgaria, Michalina Szurgot and Ola Kowalská from Poland, and many others. Czech fashion design will be represented by Kristýna Nováková.
The best collection in the Diploma Selection competition will be chosen by an international jury consisting of prominent European curators, gallerists, and other experts.
