Japanese artist Yayio Kusama has designed the new collection for Louis Vuitton in collaboration with Marc Jacobs. The first Art Talk in Prague will take place within the Louis Vuitton boutique as part of Designblok on the occasion of launching the new collection of handbags, shoes, and other accessories.
The art of Yayio Kusama is reflected in paintings, drawings, statues, movies, and installations. She is most renowned for the Intimity Net paintings with many layers of huge patterns, including the famous polka dots.
The polka-dot paintings were inspired by her hallucination in the dining room, when she saw the polka-dots from porcelain tableware extend all over the room, including her own clothes.
In her career, Kusama has been alternately famous and forgotten. Her works are included in the most significant galleries. She has had a retrospective exhibition in the Whitney Museum of American Art this year. The exhibition in New York is open until September 30.
“The name of Louis Vuitton is world-renowned. Designer teams of Louis Vuitton abound in ideas – but I have many ideas as well! So I think such a unique collaboration can reach the hearts of people all around the world. The emotions present in this joint project will take my polka-dots to all corners of the world. The message of my art is Love Forever.” says Kusama.
