Designblok presents 17 fashion shows with Grand Designer of the Year 2015 Liběna Rochová as the main attraction
This year Designblok presents a record-breaking number of installations by fashion designers (40) as well as jewellery exhibitions (27) and fashion shows (17). Among the elite Czech fashion designers this year are Liběna Rochová, Hana Zárubová and Mi Fashion Label. Monika Drápalová, Pavel Brejcha and Denisa Nová also present their work as part of Benefashion, a benefit project for Projekt 35.
The 18th year of the biggest design festival in Central Europe starts at Výstaviště Praha Holešovice next Thursday, October 27th. In addition to installations by Czech and foreign designers and brands, the festival will as usual showcase the latest fashion and jewellery. Visitors will get the chance to see the work of fashion designers at sales exhibitions in the Openstudio situated in the left wing of the Industrial Palace and on the Garden Stage catwalk in the Central Hall. Dressing rooms will be available for those who want to try on and purchase clothes.
The Garden Stage catwalk will host fashion shows by Lenka Mulabegovič, Hana Zárubová and Liběna Rochová, who won the Grand Designer of the Year Award at the 2015 Czech Grand Design Awards. European fashion designers from six countries short-listed for the Designblok Diploma Selection competition finals, co-organised with EUNIC, will present their work in blocs. They include Danial Autuganov, who won the prestigious Dutch competition Lichting, and Janina Volkmer, winner of the Diploma Selection competition last year.
Sales exhibitions include fashion products by Kateřina Geislerová, Leeda, Lenka Vacková, Daria Makeeva, Zdenka Imreczeová, Kateřina Plamitzerová, Jana Mikešová, Tereza Rozálie Kladošová, Tereza Vu, Cockerel, Plove, Adidas and Botas.
Jewellery and accessory designers include Zorya, Nastassia Aleinikava, Janja Prokić, Beldafactory, Blueberries, 27jewelry, Dana Bezděková, Kristýna Malovaná and Helena Lukášová among others.
Each year Designblok supports a benefit project. This year’s project focuses on fashion. On Monday, October 31st, the catwalk will host a unique fashion show featuring a special collection of models in designs by 12 leading Czech fashion designers. Monika Drápalová, Denisa Nová, Pavel Brejcha, Petra Ptáčková and other designers have been tasked with creating models inspired by the stories of young women unexpectedly diagnosed with breast cancer. Monika Koblerová, curator of the Benefashion project, explains: “The concept behind the Benefashion project is to give Czech fashion designers the brief of raising awareness (through fashion design) of the problem of breast carcinoma among very young women. Each fashion designer has created unique clothes for a specific model/patient based on her own ideas and from conversation with her.” The clothes will be presented by the patients themselves since their stories inspired the clothes.
