The new collection by the Dutch duo of Spijkers en Spijkers is currently being launched at London Fashion Week. The fine-tuned spring/summer 2013 collection will be subsequently presented at Designblok Premier Fashion Week.
The La Femme Paysage collection is inspired primarily by geometric patterns derived from the poetics of French painter Sonia Delauney, who with her husband Robert Delauney cofounded the Orphism art movement, noted for its use of strong colors and geometric shapes. The collection also features prints of the portrait of Marchesa Luisa Casati, who was one of the greatest muses of artists during the 1920s. The famous provocatrice had her portraits made by painters and photographers with her favorite greyhounds or a cheetah from which one of her most famous dresses was made.
The Dutch label of Spijkers en Spijkers was established in 2000 by the monovular twins Truus and Riet Spijkers. Their collections always explore femininity and its perception, yet are always highly functional and elaborate. Do not miss the show of powerful opinions by the Spijkers sisters in the Church of St. Simon and St. Jude on Friday October 5 at 9 p.m., which is part of Designblok Premier Fashion Week.
