The renowned Flemish brand of A.F. Vandevorst will have its Czech premiere at Designblok. An Vandevorst and Filip Arickx, a.k.a. A.F. Vandevorst, met in 1987 on the first day of their studies at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. The brand is famous for its pronounced aesthetics, inspired by hospital sternness and fascinated by the respect elicited by uniforms, riding outfits, and court manners. However, it finds its biggest inspiration in contemporary art and dynamics, caused by the interaction of art and fashion. Currently, the brand presents women’s fashion, including shoes (the famous Fetish shoes), bags, and accessories and is complemented with the sub-brand of A.Friend by A.F. Vandevorst, which is more accessible to the public.
A.F. Vandevorst fashion is presented twice a year at Paris Fashion Week and sold in over hundred boutiques all over the world. The duo of designers also focuses on design projects (in 2011, they won the Designer of the Year award at ELLE Awards in Belgium) and costume design. For instance, they designed costumes for the Dutch opera performance of the Makropulos Case in 2002. In Prague, A.F. Vandevorst will present its fashion designs at the closing gala evening of the Designblok Premier Fashion Week in the Church of St. Simon and St. Jude on Sunday, October 13 from 7 p.m. Thus, we will have an opportunity to see the collection for spring and summer 2014 immediately after Paris. Apart from the fashion show, the original concept of the smallest travelling store in the world will be displayed in the Simple Concept Store on Pařížská street, which will present the visual style of this brand following its presentation at Selfridges in London and the Patron store in New York. Laid out as an old-time hospital room, the smallest travelling store in the world illustrates A.F. Vandevorst aesthetics. The exhibition enables all the Prague-based fans of this legendary brand to buy its current collections.
