Even though Designblok 2014 is over, there are still a few important events to note, as well as some new designs, most of which have only just been put on sale. Jaroslav Juřica has designed a collection of furniture for Jelínek from Moravian Wallachia in which he channels the themes of the company’s long-standing and rich history. Jelínek’s history stretches back to 1874 when Josef Volek, a cabinetmaker from Horní Bečva, opened his first workshop. It currently specializes in the production of mattresses and custom-made solid-wood furniture. When designing the collection for the company’s new product line, Jaroslav Juřica was naturally drawn to explore the company’s past designs. The collection features a bed with a generous, yet contemporary design, complemented by a dresser and tables. All products display superb craftsmanship. The collection won the Editors-in-Chief Award for best new furniture at Designblok 2014.
