The well-known Czech figure in the field of design, enjoying the widest local media attention, actually never craved the career of a designer. However, even if not being that, he would pursue design anyway. “With a budget high enough, I’d love to build a Prague Museum of Everything, which would become a very interesting social platform.” Velčovský currently heads the Porcelain and Ceramics studio at the Prague Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design, is the art director of the Lasvit glassmaking brand and one of the designers who have been producing special installations for Designblok from the very beginnings of the show.
“Can came to symbolize our rescue (the protection of food and the possibility to transport it across the world) and, simultaneously, our decline (the possibility to order anything from the whole planet and transport it at any cost, even environmental devastation). I ́ve designed an object of golden cans for the conserved space of the Baroque palace. It represents a smybol of the today ́s hedonism to me. It ́s both a memento and a magic.” The installation will inhabited the largest space of the Colloredo-Mansfeld Palace, the Theater Hall.
Has Desingblok influenced the career of Maxim Velčovskýin any way? “It certainly has. It urges me to make something every year, which is why my collection reached interesting collectors and splendid art and design collection both here and abroad.”
