The Triumphant and Eccentric Henriette Tilanus

25. 9. 2013

The 2013 winner of the prestigious Lichting supported by G-Star competition, which awards the best diploma work in Holland, is Henriette Tilanus. The designer will present her victorious collection in Prague.  The graduate from the Artez Institute of the Arts in Arnhem won with the “Let the Dust Settle” collection, inspired by Lady Edith Sitwell – an eccentric writer from the early twenties with an uncanny sense for drama and style. Tilanus imagined Sitwell living in her romantic house, sometimes taking a walk in her garden, while the dust slowly settles all over the scene.

“I studied her portrait by Cecil Beaton, where her garden is also depicted. I started to experiment with textiles, plastic embroidery, hand-drawn patterns on textile, and knitwear parts sewn onto clothes.  I later translated these experiments into a women’s collection.”

The collection is modern, yet eccentric; original, yet very straightforward, wearable, and contemporary. We will have an opportunity to see it with other selected diploma works by European fashion designers in the Diploma Selection at the Church of St. Simon and St. Jude on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at 3 p.m.
